DESCRIPTION Royal jelly is a secretion of the pharyngeal glands of young worker bees. It is the basic, high-energy food of queen bees and younger larvae. Fresh royal jelly is a substance with a creamy consistency and variable colour, from light cream to light yellow. Tart and slightly sour, with a specific smell. When fresh, it is an unstable product that requires preservation. It is commercially available in the form of tablets and in a mixture with honey. Royal jelly contains a whole range of micro and macro elements, free amino acids, hormones, enzymes, organic acids, inhibitors, vitamins and other biologically active substances.
