Japanese knotweed rhizome has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. It is an important herbal raw material in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine - it is used, among others, to treat bacterial and viral infections, asthma, cancer, inflammation, heart disease, hypertension and atherosclerosis. Japanese knotweed rhizome is a valuable source of resveratrol and many other important compounds with a wide range of effects. Modern research indicates Japanese knotweed rhizome extracts' anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antimutagenic properties.

Japanese knotweed is often recommended for difficult infections, such as Lyme disease and co-infections, cardiovascular diseases, and atherosclerosis, and as a support in cancer therapy. Dosage: All knotweed preparations should be taken 1-2 hours before eating. Contraindications: Enzyme deficiencies in the digestive system. Tannin compounds contained in knotweed inhibit the enzymes: trypsin (digesting proteins), amylase (digesting starch) and lipase (digesting fats). How to use? Infusion: pour 2 cups of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of crushed knotweed rhizomes; cover and leave for 30-40 minutes, strain. Drink in 4 portions during the day (1/2 cup each). The infusion can be used for compressing and washing the skin (acne, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, ulcers) 2-6 times a day. Knotweed treatment should last 3-6 months, with a break (1-2 weeks) every month. Decoction: pour 2 cups of water over 2 tablespoons of dry or fresh knotweed rhizomes, bring to a boil and simmer for about 15 minutes. Then leave covered for 30 minutes. Strain. Drink 2-4 times a day, 100 ml each for 3-4 weeks. Take a 1-2 week break between treatments. Knotweed extract - Extractum Polygoni cuspidate - pour 3 parts of 40-50% alcohol over 1 part of dry or fresh ground rhizomes, macerate in a dark place in a tightly closed jar for 7 days, filter. Use orally 2-3 times a day, 3-5 ml each in 100 ml of water, for 2 weeks, then take a 1-week break from taking the medicine, and repeat the treatment. There should be no more than 2 treatments in one quarter of the year.

Knotweed tincture - Tinctura Reynoutriae - pour 5 parts of 40-50% alcohol over 1 part of dry, well-ground knotweed rhizomes, seal tightly and leave to macerate for 7-10 days, then filter. Take 2-3 times a day, 5-10 ml in 100 ml of spring water or boiled water. Use for two weeks. Each quarter of the year should have 1-2 treatments. Also, use externally like knotweed extract. Suitable for rubbing into washed hair, for hair loss, premature greying and brittle hair.

Knotweed wine - Vinum Reynoutriae - pour 5 parts white or semi-dry red wine over 1 part of dry, crushed rhizome, leave for 7 days, filter. It is a rich source of resveratrol in an easily digestible form. Take 1-2 times a day, 15 ml each. The treatment should last 2 weeks. Each quarter of the year can be 2-3 treatments.
